With only a few days left in the month of January, I thought I would post my goals for this year.
Now, this is not something I would normally do. I'm a relatively private person. I like to keep things to myself, especially goals! That way if I fail to meet them, I can suffer with my failure in private. I'm not a fan of public humiliation.
This year, I'm throwing all caution to the wind! I'm going to let it all hang out...
Not really.
Here are a few of my goals.
1) Read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year. Now, this one I'm not too worried about. It's the next goal that might cause me some problems.
2) Attend the temple at least once a month. I have to succeed with this goal! I've been a serious slacker the last year or so, and I need those promised blessings! I've got a little girl I need to keep on the strait and narrow.
3) Become a better baker and cook. Food brings me happiness! But I need to expand my repertoire, get out of my comfort zone, and make cool, more interesting and yummy food!
4) Start a family business with the hubby. Doesn't that sound fun to have a business together!?
Okay. Now I know that these goals are not that impressive, and we all have a different definition of success. But if I can do these, I will count myself as quite accomplished!
Wish me luck!

A few random things worth mentioning...
Did you know that Alec Baldwin is one of the narrators on Thomas the Tank Engine!? When Ayda and I were watching an episode together, I thought, I know this voice... Alec Baldwin! His talent is endless!
Ayda has this game she likes to play where we both stand at one end of the living room, or basement, then she says, "four, five.... GO!" We take off running to the other end of the room. Sometimes we hold hands, sometimes we don't. We go back and forth. She can do this for hours, folks!
Ayda likes to eat her cheese goldfish mixed with her chocolate goldfish. She actually puts one of each in her mouth at the same time! And she refuses to eat them separately! Cheese and chocolate, Ayda? Sounds delicious!
Ayda has been really into reading books with me lately.
After her nap, she wanted to read books on the couch, in the living room. We got cozy, we were able to watch the snow falling from the window, and we read tons of books together. I'm telling you it was awesome because a few months ago, she wanted nothing to do with them.
Last thing- when Ayda gives us a hug she says, "ooohhhhh Mommy/Daddy/Bruiser."
She's precious, I tell ya!

OCD
I have OCD. And I know it can be a bit of a joke sometimes, but in all honesty, it's not easy having these 'ticks' eat at you all the time.
Anyways...
Ayda and I were giving the play-doh another go yesterday.
She wanted me to take out each color from the container. As she was pulling them apart, and playing with it, I noticed the colors were mixing together.
Immediately, my OCD started to kick in. I started thinking, she's going to ruin the different colors, it won't be as nice now... I wanted to tell her to stop.
I had to literally stop myself, re-direct my thoughts, and start to self-talk/think- It's okay, this is how the toy is meant to be played with, it's no big deal, and she is having fun.
I no longer felt bothered.
I have always felt that when we receive these sweet spirits, it is our duty as 'parents' to teach them.
This story may be a lame example, but from the moment Ayda has come into my life, she has been helping me become a better person. She is teaching me.
I just barely had a friend tell me that our kids are here to teach us patience. Yes. And so much more!
We had so much fun playing with the play-doh! And when Scott came home from work, he helped us make play-doh fish.
Ayda truly brings me joy, and the only way to describe it is heavenly!

Sunday horror stories
All three of us have been suffering from the flu...
I think this was the universe's way of telling us to stay home from church on Sunday. Unfortunately, Scott had to teach, (he's the gospel doctrine teacher) and I always want to be there when he teaches for support. And of course, I had to drag Ayda along with me, so she wouldn't infect the other children in nursery.
I thought I would share a few of our experiences on Sunday.
Ayda was actually behaving pretty good In Sunday School, then she pooped. I took her into the bathroom to change her diaper, and she started yelling, "Help me!" She was yelling this the whole diaper change, and from the top of her lungs! Needless to say, it left me a bit frazzled!
Okay. Now Sacrament. I should be able to handle it now that I have Scott's help, and she is outnumbered.
Ayda was playing with a princess figurine that has a pink, removable dress. It also comes with a blue dress you can switch out. I asked Ayda if we should put the blue dress on. She was very excited by the idea. When I took the pink dress off, she yelled, "SHE'S NAKED!"
It wasn't like she yelled this during a song so the sound was drowned out. She yelled it while they were saying the announcements!
Normally, I would have found this to be comical, but as everyone was looking at us, and giving us sympathy chuckles... I just wasn't in the mood. Plus, a guy in front of us said, "It's the age."
Oh. Okay. Thanks. I feel better.
We are half way through the meeting, and I can see Ayda is becoming restless. I offer her some snacks. She then starts jumping up and down, DEMANDING I give her some chocolate. There is something a bit embarrassing when your two year old daughter is demanding things from you in a room full of people, and you can't do much about it.
I rip open the bag of M&M's. I'm giving them out as quick as I can, to quiet her. Then she starts yelling, "blue!" I can't find any blue ones, and now she is FREAKING out!
Finally, my hero takes her out to the hall... Sigh!
Ayda and I should have stayed home...
In Ayda's defense, eleven to two church is no good. It is during her lunch and nap time. I would be a little cross too!

A Christmas miracle!
We decided to head down south for Christmas break this year.
It's always a bit nerve-racking to travel with Ayda, due to the fact that she is a lousy sleeper at other people's homes.
I'm pleased to say that Ayda did a fantastic job this go around! We really had no trouble with her at all! Well done, Ayda. Well done!
What a great time we had with our families! I know Ayda was in cousin heaven! She loved playing with her cousins, and she even got to meet/play with new cousins that were super AWESOME!
On Christmas morning we all woke up early except for Ayda. When Ayda finally did wake up, she was not really into the whole present thing. Although, she was super stoked about the M&M's Santa left in her stocking!
The weather was so nice! We got to spend a lot of time outside. We even got the chance to catch a few flicks... thanks to our generous sitters!

The few pictures we took will not do justice to the fabulous time we had, or the many family members we got to spend time with. I'm a lousy picture taker. I'm usually enjoying the moment, and not thinking about the camera. I didn't get any pictures of my bro and his fam, my parent's, Scott's Dad and Shirley, or Scott's Sis and fam. Also, we were able to stop by the farm and visit Grandma and Grandpa and fam. We love you all, even if we don't have photos to show it. :)
Christmas 2011... SUCCESS!!!!
| Had SO much fun with these guys! Another stop along the way. Some of the sweetest kids on the planet live at this home! Love you guys! |

W.O.M.D ( weapon of mass destruction)
Ayda has discovered that her head makes a crafty weapon... and it HURTS!
I can't believe she has not broken my nose yet!
Ayda has even been head-butting the poor dog!
I thought the biting and hitting was bad, but this whole head-butting phase has got to go!
The crazy thing is, she inflicts pain on herself! When she does not want to go to bed, she demonstrates this by banging her head on the rail of the crib! She has the bruises to prove it.
Seriously, Ayda! Take it easy!

Party on, Ayda. Party on.
I had a hankering to throw Ayda a big birthday bash to celebrate her turning two.
I decided a themed party was just the ticket!
The theme of choice was... Dr. Seuss!
There was family, friends, dogs, decorations, soup, cheesecake, cupcakes, balloons, presents, a trampoline and a whole lot of fun!
A big thank you to all that came. You made the day so special for Ayda!
